Samuel & Charles Smith, London, best 13-bore single barrel flintlock game gun made in 1846. Superb 33" Damascus steel barrel, the breech octagonal then sixteen-sided with moulding then tapered round to the muzzle, retaining 100% of the original brown finish and the bore absolutely mint. Engraved stepped-in breech, with two platinum lines and platinum lined touch-hole, retains all the original color hardening. Highest quality lock with typical upswept waterproof pan retains all the original hardening colors and frizzen spring retains all the original fire blue finish. Highly figured walnut half stock retains 100% of the original finish and the beautifully engraved mounts retain virtually all the original brilliant black finish. Cased in the original maker's case with every original accessory, the whole set in absolutely mint, unused, condition throughout. Overall a magnificent set by (perhaps arguably) the greatest of all the best English flintlock gunmakers. Absolutely none finer! |
