James Purdey, London, best self-opening sidelock, lightweight, 12ga. game gun made in 1911. Weight: 6 lbs. 7 oz. Stock dimensions: 14 3/8"x 1 1/2"x 2 1/4"x 1/4" cast-off. Superb 28" chopper lump steel barrels with 2 1/2" chambers have mint bores (.735"/.734"), choked .009"/.025", with wall thickness .028"/.028" and retain 90% of the original black finish. Best self-opening action and bar action side locks retain 30% original hardening colors and show no wear whatsoever. Bushed pins, double triggers, ejectors. Highly figured straight grip stock with checkered butt and splinter forend have crisp checkering (not refreshed) showing some minor handling marks but no significant wear. 90% original black remaining on top lever with about 70% finish remaining on trigger guard. Overall a beautiful, mechanically perfect, tight, original lightweight game gun showing some use but certainly no abuse. Increasingly difficult to find these days in this fine unaltered condition.
