Chronicles of Sheep Hunting and Legendary Sheep Hunters

Avid sheep hunters and conservationists have long anticipated the next book in the franchise series Great Rams by Robert Anderson. The latest installment honors the traditional format of its predecessors, and, again, the book features high-quality paper and about 90 percent of the photos are in color, truly a first-rate production. The content is classic Great Rams fodder: stories of legendary sheep hunts and hunters, colorful photographs, features on historic trophy areas and conservation efforts, and a look at yesterday's-and today's-North American sheep hunter.

Anderson said, "Today's sheep hunter is more challenge-oriented than ever before. Scratch the sheep hunter of today and you will see a pattern and a history of success in most all that he undertakes. Almost without exception, he or she is more knowledgeable, in better condition, a better climber, and a better shot than ever before in the history of the sport. Of course, the high cost of sheep hunting mandates this to some degree, but I believe even more than that, it is a profound sense of respect and responsibility on the part of hunters themselves to the great game animals that they hunt."

What a feast for the eyes this book is. It contains the best historical and modern photos of superlative North American sheep trophies and sheep hunters. Photos of the largest Grand Slams ever obtained, unknown images of the Swank world record Dall sheep, some of the biggest Rocky Mountain and desert bighorns ever photographed, and more . . . yes more! Anderson has been collecting trophy shots from sheep hunters for almost forty years, this book represents the best of his archives. As before, we have plenty of great modern and historical facts, such as the real first Grand Slammer, the kind of heads that came from the early Baja California hunts, Alberta rams from 1920 till 1970, a section on Bill Foster's famous "restaurant" collection of sheep, and the mysterious death of a self-guided Alaska sheep hunter after he got his ram. All these tales have been magnificently illustrated with hundreds of pictures, drawings, and documents. If ever there was a book that is an overload on the senses about North American sheep hunting, this is it!
