Every person who guides or hunts on the Alaska Peninsula for any length of time eventually has an unusual, exciting, or entertaining encounter with a giant brown bear. Unpredictable Giants is a collection of bear tales collected by longtime Alaskan outfitter Keith Johnson, and his guides, during his forty years of hunting and guiding.

In 1961 his love of hunting took him and his family to Alaska. When Keith wasn't hunting, he was scouting for bigger trophies and better hunting locations for moose, bear, and caribou. During his second summer in Alaska, he began working as an assistant guide in the Wrangell Mountains. The following year, he earned his registered guide license, and the next year, he started his own guiding business. In 1980, Keith relocated his hunting headquarters to the Alaska Peninsula, where he operated a popular lodge, and in the spring of 1996 he retired.

Always a great storyteller, Keith compiled his favorite stories into this book with the hope that his readers would enjoy the tales as much as he enjoyed reliving each of them as he put pen to paper. There are tales of bears that weigh 1,500 pounds or more—bears so large that they will make any hunter feel undergunned, even if he carries a .375 magnum. Some bears are shy and retreating but others are aggressive and like to posture. All of them walk through these pages. The book is liberally illustrated with color photos and printed on coated paper. And while Keith outfitted and guided for other animals, this book is 100-percent-pure giant brown bears . . . and nothing else.

We have found a small remnant stock of this book, and we are hereby offering brand-new copies at the same price it sold for almost ten years ago. This offer will not last!
