Solid wood- no veneers in our campaign trunk. Rope handles and brass reinforcements on the side make these just like the originals. An inlaid brass ribbon on the top of the lid is there for personalized engraved (not available by us). Two differently configured trays rest just under the top for smaller items leaving a large space below for clothing or larger gear. Makes a great coffee table and the extra storage space is perfect at the end of a bed for linens and blankets.
