John Henry Patterson is among the most famous of the early hunters of Africa; the movie The Ghost and the Darkness and the book The Man-Eaters of Tsavo have seen to that. However, very little about Patterson’s life is widely known. This book gives a detailed look into Patterson’s life; the majority of it is not about his hunting but his rather strange background (he probably was the illegitimate son of an Earl), his time fighting in the Boer War, his strong Zionism, and the scandal surrounding his marriage. Maybe the oddest of all these events is the fact that Patterson had an affair with the author's great aunt's sister!

These and many other intriguing details are described in this well-written but very obscure book. This biography was privately printed in the UK and we have acquired a very small batch of soft cover copies, all of them SIGNED by the author.
