This book is aimed at young readers interested in guns and shooting but who have no firearms mentors and don't know where to begin. Thoroughly illustrated with drawings and photos, it defines firearms terms, provides hands-on advice about using and maintaining guns, and explains aspects of shooting that range from historic target matches to military sniping. When the reviewer at Safari Press started reading it, he found himself drawn into the facinating history of the various action types and the interesting snippets of information such as the world-record confirmed sniper kill.
Through example and anecdote, the book debunks popular myths about firearms and emphasizes safety and proper usage. Everything is presented in easily managed portions that can be read in series or singly, and each topic is backed up with an index and suggestions for further reading. The text has been "kid-tested and mother-approved." If you have kids and you hunt and shoot, you should give this book as a present as it is very worthwhile. If you want to cultivate a future hunter or firearm owner, it is worth even more. |
